ENQUIRE ABOUT OT AVAILABILITY

Mobile Occupational Therapy Where Everyday Life Happens

Youth OT delivers occupational therapy in the environments where clients complete their usual activities and routines. For families in Surfers Paradise, this may include visits to the family home, apartment, school, early-learning setting or an appropriate community location.

Working within familiar environments helps the occupational therapist understand the practical demands, routines and environmental factors affecting the client’s participation. Support and strategies can then be tailored to the client’s circumstances.

Areas Occupational Therapy May Support

Daily living and self-care

Support may address dressing, toileting, personal care, mealtime participation, sleep routines, household activities and increasing independence in everyday tasks.

Sensory processing and emotional regulation

Occupational therapy may help clients understand their sensory preferences, develop regulation strategies and participate more comfortably across home, education and community settings.

Motor skills, play and learning

Support may focus on fine motor skills, handwriting, coordination, play, classroom participation and access to learning activities.

Executive functioning and greater independence

Therapy may address planning, organisation, task initiation, time management, problem-solving, community participation and preparation for greater independence.

How Mobile OT Services Begin

Initial discussion

Our team will discuss the client’s age, location, support needs, goals, funding arrangements and current therapist availability. For apartment or high-rise visits, access and parking arrangements may also be discussed before the first appointment.

Assessment and goal development

The occupational therapist gathers information about the client’s strengths, routines, functional needs and participation across relevant settings. Goals are developed collaboratively with the client, family and other supports where appropriate.

Intervention and review

Services may include direct occupational therapy, practical strategies, environmental adjustments, family guidance, collaboration with educators or other professionals, assistive technology support and progress reviews where relevant.

NDIS Occupational Therapy in Surfers Paradise

Supporting Participation Across Different Environments

Clients may experience different routines, expectations and participation demands across home, school and community settings. Mobile occupational therapy allows the therapist to consider these differences within the environments most relevant to the client’s goals.

With appropriate consent, the occupational therapist may collaborate with parents, carers, educators and other professionals. This may help support consistency and address practical barriers across the client’s everyday settings.
