School & Early Learning Partnerships

Schools, kindys and early learning centres are a key part of every child’s world.
When families + educators + therapists work as a team, children are better supported to participate, learn, and feel safe and confident at school.
Youth OT partners with education settings across the Gold Coast and Northern NSW to strengthen student wellbeing and build more inclusive, supportive learning environments. Our approach is practical, strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and designed to fit real classrooms and real routines.

1) Professional learning for educators
We deliver interactive, practical sessions for teachers and support staff, focused on strategies you can use straight away.
Popular topics include:
-
Sensory processing in the classroom
-
Regulation and co-regulation strategies
-
Building movement into the school day (without disrupting learning)
-
Fine motor, handwriting and “ready to write” foundations
-
Classroom setup for attention, participation and independence
-
Executive functioning supports (planning, organisation, getting started)
-
Neurodiversity-affirming practice and strength-based support
-
Supporting transitions (arrival, pack-up, class changes)
Workshops can be delivered in-person or online, and tailored to your school/learning centres' priorities and student needs.
2) Whole-setting environment consultations
Sometimes the biggest change comes from the environment - not the child.
Our occupational therapists can visit your setting and provide clear recommendations to support participation, regulation and inclusion, such as:
-
Creating sensory-friendly spaces (e.g., calm corners, recovery spaces)
-
Designing movement and regulation zones
-
Adjusting classroom layout, seating and access to tools
-
Visual supports and routines that reduce overwhelm and improve independence
These consultations help create spaces that better support all learners, especially students with sensory, attention, or regulation differences.
3) Student-focused school support (with family consent)
With parent/carer consent, we can support individual students at school or daycare through observation and consultation.
This may include:
-
Functional observation in the classroom and playground
-
Practical strategy recommendations (what to do + how to do it)
-
Collaborative educator consults to embed supports into daily routines
-
Goal-focused planning to support participation and independence at school
Our priority is to provide educators with clear, actionable strategies that are realistic for busy school days.
