Why Feedback and Open Communication Matter in Occupational Therapy

At Youth OT, we believe that the best outcomes for children happen when therapists and families work together. One of the most important parts of this partnership is open communication and feedback between Occupational Therapists and parents or caregivers.

Feedback helps us understand your child’s needs, adjust therapy when needed, and ensure we are providing the best possible support for your family.

Why Open Communication Is Important:

Parents know their children best. You see how they interact at home, at school, and in everyday environments. This insight is incredibly valuable for therapists when planning and adapting therapy.

Open communication allows:

  • A shared understanding of goals – ensuring everyone knows what the therapist is working on with your child

  • Better support at home – therapists can provide strategies parents can use in everyday routines

  • Early identification of concerns – if something isn’t working, it can be addressed quickly

  • Stronger collaboration – therapy becomes a team effort between therapist, child, and family

Sometimes therapy sessions can look like play, but each activity is chosen with a purpose. When parents feel comfortable asking questions or sharing observations, it helps therapists explain the goals behind the activities and adjust sessions when needed.

The Benefits of Parent Feedback

Feedback from families helps us continually improve the quality of care we provide.

Some of the key benefits include:

Improving Therapy Outcomes

Your feedback helps therapists understand what strategies are working well at home or school and what may need adjusting.

Personalising Support

Every child and family is different. Feedback helps us tailor therapy approaches to better suit your child’s needs and your family’s routines.

Strengthening Partnerships

When families feel comfortable sharing thoughts and experiences, it builds trust and strengthens the partnership between therapists and parents.

Supporting Service Improvement

Feedback also helps Youth OT improve the overall experience for families by identifying areas where we can grow and develop as a service.

How You Can Provide Feedback

We welcome feedback in whatever way feels easiest and most comfortable for you.

  1. Email Our Administration Team

You can send written feedback directly to our administration team at:

This can include suggestions, questions, compliments, or concerns. Our team ensures that feedback is shared appropriately and addressed where needed.

  1. Speak Directly With Your Therapist

Parents are always welcome to speak with their child’s therapist during or after sessions. Therapists value hearing about how children are progressing outside of therapy and are happy to answer any questions about goals or activities.

  1. Leave a Google Review

Families can also share their experiences through Google Reviews. Reviews help other families learn about our services and allow us to celebrate the positive experiences of our community.

Working Together for Your Child

At Youth OT, we see therapy as a collaborative journey. When therapists and parents communicate openly, share insights, and provide feedback, it creates the strongest foundation for helping children develop the skills they need to thrive.

Your voice matters, and we genuinely appreciate the time families take to share their thoughts with us.

Together, we can continue to create supportive, meaningful therapy experiences for every child and family we work with. 🌱
